Aleksi Perälä

Aleksi Perälä is a Finnish electronic music producer known for his unorthodox approach to composition and his prolific output. Born on April 15, 1976, Perälä began his musical journey in the mid-90s under the moniker Ovuca, releasing on the seminal label Rephlex Records, co-founded by Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) and Grant Wilson-Claridge. Perälä's work is profoundly influenced by the "Colundi Sequence," a system of musical tuning based on a specific set of frequencies believed to resonate with the natural world and human consciousness, a concept introduced to him by Wilson-Claridge.

Throughout his career, Aleksi Perälä's sound has evolved from early ventures in ambient and IDM to a distinctive blend of techno and electro, all while staying rooted in the Colundi Sequence. His GAIA and ALITHIA series are prime examples of his concentrated focus on this tuning approach, with each release exploring the depths of the sequence's harmonic possibilities. The result is a body of work that is both meditative and mathematic, often described as having a hypnotic and otherworldly quality. The GAIA series, progressing from GAIA 5 through GAIA 14, and the ALITHIA series, from ALITHIA A' to ALITHIA E', showcase his experimental edge, marrying complex rhythms with lush textures to create soundscapes that are at once cerebral and danceable. Perälä's devotion to sonic innovation and his prolific nature have established him as a cult figure within the realms of experimental electronic music.
