Joy Harjo

Joy Harjo is a celebrated musician, poet, and performer known for blending her Native American heritage with jazz, rock, blues, and spoken word. A member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation, she has long used music and poetry to explore themes of identity, resilience, and the Native experience in America. Over the years, she’s released several acclaimed albums, including I Pray for My Enemies and Winding Through The Milky Way, which feature evocative lyrics layered over rich, atmospheric arrangements.

In addition to her work as a musician, Joy Harjo is widely recognized for her groundbreaking contributions to American literature—she made history as the first Native American U.S. Poet Laureate, serving from 2019 to 2022. Her music often reflects the same lyrical depth and powerful storytelling present in her poetry, creating an immersive experience that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.
