Rein de Graaff is a respected Dutch jazz pianist known for his deep commitment to the bebop tradition. Active since the 1950s, de Graaff gained acclaim not just as a performer but also as a longtime promoter of the classic jazz sound in Europe. He often worked with both local European talent and major American jazz artists who toured across the Atlantic, such as Hank Mobley, Dexter Gordon, and Art Farmer. With his swinging style and impeccable timing, de Graaff earned a reputation as one of the most authentic bebop pianists outside of the United States.
In addition to performing, Rein de Graaff was known for organizing “rebop” tours, during which he brought together bebop legends and introduced them to European audiences. These efforts helped keep the spirit of bebop alive through the decades. He's released numerous acclaimed recordings under his name, including collaborations, duos, and solo sessions that highlight his tasteful phrasing and deep knowledge of the jazz tradition. Rein de Graaff officially retired from performing in 2019, leaving behind a rich legacy in the jazz world.
