Bedemon is considered one of the earliest examples of American doom metal, originally formed in the early 1970s by guitarist Randy Palmer. The band had close ties to Pentagram, with members like Bobby Liebling and Geof O'Keefe contributing to Bedemon's recordings. Though they never played live or released an album during their initial run, their raw, heavy, and eerie sound became legendary among doom metal fans and collectors, eventually earning them cult status.
Their material was recorded sporadically over the years, with many of the early tracks compiled on the collection Child of Darkness. In 2012, long after the passing of Randy Palmer, Bedemon released Harbinger—an album based on Palmer’s final compositions, recorded by surviving members in tribute. Bedemon's legacy lies in their primal, Sabbath-inspired heaviness, marking them as foundational figures in the evolution of doom metal.
