Sapan Jagmohan

Sapan Jagmohan was a renowned composer duo in Indian cinema, consisting of Sapan Sengupta and Jagmohan Bakshi. They formed their partnership in the early 1950s after initially aspiring to be playback singers. The duo composed music for over 90 films across Hindi, Punjabi, and Bengali languages, with notable works including the films "Begaana," "Chetna," "Do Raha," "Call Girl," "Sajjo Rani," and "Mera Jivan." Their music often featured collaborations with prominent lyricists like Naqsh Lyallpuri and singers such as Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar. Despite their contributions to Indian cinema, they remained humble and never sought much publicity for their work.

Sapan Sengupta was born in Dhaka but grew up in Kolkata, moving to Bombay in 1957 to pursue a career in music. He and Jagmohan worked under the guidance of veteran music directors like S.D. Burman. Their compositions, though not always part of big-budget films, have endured through retro radio shows and remain cherished by fans of vintage Indian music. Jagmohan Bakshi passed away in 1999, while Sapan Sengupta passed away in 2022 at the age of 90. The duo's legacy continues to inspire with their timeless melodies and contributions to the rich tapestry of Indian film music.
