Founded in 1991, the group consists of eight distinguished musicians: three string players, three wind players, a pianist, and a harpist. This unique configuration allows them to perform a wide range of repertoire, from classical masterpieces to innovative musical experiences. They are known for their extensive concert schedule, with about 100 performances annually, and for bringing music to diverse audiences through traditional and alternative formats. The ensemble is also committed to music education and has commissioned over 120 new works from leading composers.
The Danish Chamber Players have released numerous recordings, including works by various Danish composers such as Ole Buck, Kasper Rofelt, Martin Lohse, Bo Lundby-Jæger, Lars Hegaard, and Svend Hvidtfelt Nielsen. They receive support from the Danish Arts Foundation and other regional cultural institutions. Their recent releases reflect their diverse musical interests and collaborations with contemporary composers. Svend Aaquist was involved with the ensemble early on, conducting them until 1995 and contributing to their diverse repertoire.
