Capitão do Cerrado is a Brazilian surf music band that got its start in Brasília in 1997, though the roots of the project stretch back to 1996 when Marquinho Vital, a young musician who had already made a name for himself at local festivals, teamed up with Fernando Mãozão on bass, Jorge Bittar on keyboards and backing vocals, and Alan Diego on drums. Taking inspiration from the laid-back vibe of surf music, the group quickly became a local favorite, performing at major Brasília events like Porão do Rock, Brasília Music Festival, and Giraffestival, in addition to opening for national acts such as Men At Work, Titãs, and Os Paralamas do Sucesso.
With catchy tunes and energetic live shows, Capitão do Cerrado soon expanded beyond the capital, building a national fanbase and performing at events across the country. Their discography includes well-known albums like A Caminho do Sol (2005), Eu Sou da Capital...Eu Moro Longe do Mar! (Ao Vivo) (2007), and Nunca Estive Longe (2019), showcasing their signature blend of surf rock and Brazilian pop sensibilities. Their live and studio recordings continue to charm audiences, keeping the spirit of Brasilian surf music alive.
