The RH Factor

The RH Factor is an eclectic band steered by the visionary jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Formed in the early 2000s, The RH Factor stands out for its innovative blend of jazz, funk, hip-hop, soul, and R&B. The band represents Hargrove’s exploration beyond the traditional boundaries of jazz, aiming to create a sound that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in the rich soil of African-American musical traditions.

Their album "Hard Groove," released in 2003, introduced listeners to a diverse musical soundscape, bringing together an array of talent including Q-Tip, Erykah Badu, and Steve Coleman, among others. This was followed by the albums "Strength" and "Distractions" in 2004 and 2006, respectively, which further solidified The RH Factor's reputation as a formidable force in genre-crossing music. Through these releases, the band continued to push the envelope with soulful melodies, groovy beats, and a seamless fusion of genres that captivate the audience, marked by Hargrove's signature trumpet sound which seamlessly binds the diverse elements together. Tragically, Roy Hargrove passed away in November 2018, but The RH Factor's music remains a testament to his brilliant musicianship and innovative spirit.
