The 1975

The 1975 is an English pop rock band that originated in Wilmslow, Cheshire. The group formed in 2002 while the members—lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew "Matty" Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel—were attending high school. Initially published music under various names, they settled on "The 1975" in 2012, a moniker inspired by a note Healy found in a book of beat poetry. With their eponymous debut album released in 2013, The 1975 quickly gained an enthusiastic following, thanks to their blend of synth-pop, electronic, and indie rock influences alongside candid, introspective lyrics.

The 1975's music has evolved with each new release. Their recent releases showcase a band unafraid to explore and push the boundaries of their sound. With the album "Notes On A Conditional Form" released in 2020, they continued to innovate, offering a mix of genres and social commentary, while their 2022 single "Happiness" is an infectious, upbeat track demonstrating their ability to create fun, danceable music. The band released "Being Funny In A Foreign Language" in 2022, an album that continues to embody their distinct blend of personal storytelling and sonic experimentation. Whether performing at sold-out venues like Madison Square Garden or collaborating with artists like Charli XCX, The 1975 have carved out a distinct niche within the contemporary music scene, marked by their dynamic performances and a dedicated, global fanbase.
