Claudio Roditi

Claudio Roditi was a renowned Brazilian jazz trumpeter, born on May 28, 1946, in Rio de Janeiro. He began his musical journey at a young age, initially studying piano and later discovering his passion for the trumpet. Roditi's career took off when he was named a finalist in the International Jazz Competition in Vienna in 1966, where he met influential figures like Art Farmer. This encounter inspired him to pursue a career in jazz. In 1970, he moved to the United States to study at the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and by 1976, he had established himself in New York City, collaborating with notable artists such as Herbie Mann, Charlie Rouse, and Paquito D'Rivera. He was also a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra.

Roditi's discography includes critically acclaimed albums like *Red On Red*, *Gemini Man*, and *Brazilliance X4*, for which he received a Grammy nomination in 2009. Known for his unique blend of Brazilian music and jazz, Roditi often performed on the rotary trumpet. He passed away on January 17, 2020, at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most versatile and accomplished jazz trumpeters of his generation.
