The Arcs are an American rock band formed in 2015 by Dan Auerbach, the guitarist and vocalist of The Black Keys, as a side project that allowed him to explore a different musical direction. Other key members include Leon Michels, Nick Movshon, Homer Steinweiss, and Richard Swift, who was also a part of the band until his passing in 2018. Their music is a medley of rock, blues, and soul, infused with a psychedelic flair that gives their sound a distinct, vintage character, yet managing to remain fresh and contemporary.
Following their formation, The Arcs quickly rose in acclaim with the release of their debut album "Yours, Dreamily," in September 2015, which showcased their cohesive sound and Auerbach's continued prowess in songwriting and production. Their eclectic style was further demonstrated through a string of releases like "Lake Superior," a single inspired by the Netflix documentary series "Making a Murderer," and "The Arcs vs. The Inventors, Vol. I," an EP that featured collaborations with other musicians. While the band has been less active in recent years, they continue to attract a dedicated fan base with their soulful and innovative approach to music, as evidenced through singles such as "Sunshine" and "Keep On Dreamin'." Their 2023 release "Electrophonic Chronic" reaffirms The Arcs' ability to blend experimentation with the accessibility of classic rock 'n' roll ethos.
