The Seahorses were a British rock band that emerged in the late 1990s, formed by guitarist John Squire following his departure from the seminal Manchester group The Stone Roses. Squire, credited with much of The Stone Roses' distinct guitar sound, sought to establish a new direction with The Seahorses, recruiting vocalist Chris Helme, bassist Stuart Fletcher, and drummer Andy Watts. The band's sound blended Squire's love for melodic guitar hooks with Helme's distinctive vocals, resulting in a blend of Britpop and rock that captured the essence of the 90s British music scene.
Their debut, and ultimately only, album "Do It Yourself," was released in 1997 and produced by Tony Visconti. The album met with commercial success, buoyed by popular singles such as "Love Is The Law" and "Blinded By The Sun," which showcased their knack for catchy, guitar-led anthems. Despite the promising start, internal tensions and creative differences led to The Seahorses' dissolution in 1999. Despite their brief existence, the group made a lasting impact with their melodic rock sound, and they remain a reference point for a fleeting but memorable moment in British rock history.
