Acid Bath emerged from the swamps of southern Louisiana with their unique and abrasive brand of sludge metal in the early 1990s. Comprising vocalist Dax Riggs, guitarists Sammy Duet and Mike Sanchez, bassist Audie Pitre, and drummer Jimmy Kyle, the band fused elements of death metal, goth, and hardcore punk, which set them apart in the heavy music scene. Their sound was dark and heavy, characterized by Riggs's hauntingly poetic lyrics and the band's grimy, down-tuned riffs.
The group's debut album, "When the Kite String Pops" (1994), produced by the legendary Samhain and Danzig guitarist Eerie Von, showcased their raw power and inventive artistry—coupled with provocative cover art by notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Their follow-up and final studio release, "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" (1996), continued to cultivate their distinctive blend of visceral storytelling and crushing heaviness. Sadly, the promising trajectory of Acid Bath was cut short due to the tragic death of Audie Pitre in a car accident in 1997. The band's influence has endured long after their disbandment, with a cult following and their albums, including the remastered edition of "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" and a collection of "Demos: 1993-1996", serving as a testament to their brief but impactful presence in metal history.
