Michael Philip Mossman

Michael Philip Mossman is an acclaimed jazz trumpeter, composer, and educator known for his vibrant contributions to both the straight-ahead jazz and Afro-Cuban jazz scenes. Throughout his career, he's worked with a wide range of iconic artists, including Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Lionel Hampton, Tito Puente, and the Michel Camilo Big Band. His trumpet playing is marked by technical precision and a deep sense of musicality that spans genres and cultural traditions.

Beyond performance, Mossman is also recognized for his innovative work as a composer and arranger, often blending jazz with Afro-Latin influences in works like Misa Afro-Cubana and The Orisha Suite. A dedicated educator, he serves as Director of Jazz Studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in New York. Mossman's passion for music and education has made him a key figure in the contemporary jazz world.
