Planet Hemp

Planet Hemp is a Brazilian band known for its unique fusion of hip hop, hardcore punk, and rock, with lyrics that often focus on social issues, politics, and the celebration of cannabis. Formed in 1993 in Rio de Janeiro, the band quickly gained notoriety for their uncompromising stance on marijuana legalization, leading to a significant impact on Brazilian youth culture and music. The band was initially fronted by vocalist Marcelo D2 and Skunk, who was later replaced by Black Alien, and includes musicians Rafael Crespo on guitar, Formigão on bass, and Bacalhau on drums.

Despite facing censorship and legal battles due to their controversial content, Planet Hemp has enjoyed huge success in Brazil and abroad. Their discography includes critically acclaimed albums such as "Usuário" (1995), and "Os Cães Ladram Mas a Caravana Não Pára" (1997). While the band went on a hiatus in the early 2000s, they reunited several times for tours and new releases, including "A Invasão do Sagaz Homem Fumaça" and "Queimando Tudo (Remixes)", as well as singles like "Admirável Chip Novo" and "NÃO VAMOS DESISTIR". Their lasting influence on Brazilian music is noticeable, with their bold and defiant lyrics that continue to inspire new generations of artists who tackle social and political issues head-on.
