Jeff Buckley

Jeff Buckley was an American singer-songwriter who left a significant mark on the world of music with his impassioned vocal performances and evocative songwriting. Born on November 17, 1966, Buckley was the son of musician Tim Buckley, though he only met his father once before Tim died of an overdose in 1975. Jeff emerged in the New York City music scene in the early 1990s, playing at various small venues and gaining a reputation for his remarkable vocal range and emotional depth.

Buckley's brief yet impactful musical career was ignited by the release of his only complete studio album, "Grace," in 1994, which eventually achieved critical and commercial success, albeit posthumously. The album included the now-iconic cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," which remains a haunting touchstone for Buckley's musical legacy. Tragically, Jeff Buckley’s life was cut short at 30 years old, when he drowned accidentally in the Wolf River in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 29, 1997, while working on material for his second album.

Despite his untimely death, Jeff Buckley's music continued to resonate, with posthumous releases like "Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk," a collection of work-in-progress recordings, and live compilations, such as "Live at Sin-é" and "Live A L'Olympia." His songs express an otherworldly quality, capturing the ephemeral beauty of life and love, and leaving an enduring impact on fans and fellow musicians alike.
