AvevA, whose full name is Aveva Dese, is an Ethiopian-Israeli singer-songwriter known for blending traditional Ethiopian sounds with soul-pop melodies, creating a unique "Afro-Soul" style. Born in Israel, Aveva's parents were part of the Ethiopian Jewish community who made Aliyah in 1984, during Operation Moses. Growing up, Aveva was heavily influenced by American soul music, admiring artists like Whitney Houston and Lauryn Hill. Her journey into music was sparked during her recovery from an injury sustained while serving in the Israeli army. She later pursued music professionally after appearing on Israel's version of *The Voice*, which led her to study at the Rimon School of Music. Aveva combines powerful lyrics in both English and Amharic with traditional Ethiopian instruments like the Masenko and Krar in her music, exploring themes of society, freedom, and love.
Aveva's music career has seen her release several notable tracks, including "Who Am I," and she has collaborated with various artists, performing both in Israel and abroad. Her inspiration also comes from Ethiopian musicians such as Aster Aweke and Tilahun Gessesse. Through her music, Aveva seeks to honor her heritage while creating a universal appeal for her listeners.
