Claudio Gizzi

Claudio Gizzi is an Italian musician and film composer, born in Rome in 1946, who became widely known for crafting the memorable score for Andy Warhol’s cult classic Frankenstein (also known as Flesh for Frankenstein). Growing up in a family of amateur instrumentalists, Gizzi developed a deep love for music early on, studying piano and composition before branching out as a professional composer. His musical journey led him to collaborate with legendary directors like Luchino Visconti and Roman Polanski, for whom he arranged and performed classical pieces, and to compose original scores for several noteworthy films, including Andy Warhol’s Dracula.

Gizzi’s versatility shines in both film music and experimental electronic projects. Alongside Romano Musumarra, he co-created the progressive electronic album Automat in 1977, a cult favorite among fans of early synth music. He has also explored a range of genres—from ambient and classical crossover to meditative piano works—as seen in recent releases that reflect his ongoing passion for musical experimentation. Claudio Gizzi remains an intriguing figure in the landscape of Italian music, celebrated for his inventive approach to both cinematic and studio recordings.
