Chip Kinman

Chip Kinman is a punk rock legend who's been shaking up the music scene since the late '70s. As a founding member of The Dils, alongside his brother Tony, he helped pioneer the West Coast punk sound with their raw, politically charged anthems that captured the rebellious spirit of the era. After The Dils disbanded, the brothers kept the momentum going by forming Rank and File in the early '80s, blending punk energy with country twang to create the "cowpunk" genre—think rootsy vibes meets high-octane attitude. Their debut album, Sundown, became a cult classic, influencing everyone from alt-country acts to modern indie rockers.

Over the years, Chip has stayed true to his DIY ethos, exploring various projects like Blackbird and Cowboy Nation, and even dipping into solo work. Following Tony's passing in 2018, Chip released heartfelt solo efforts, including the 2020 album The Great Confrontation, which showcases his enduring grit and storytelling prowess. Whether he's cranking out fiery punk riffs or mellow acoustic tunes, Chip's music always feels authentic and full of heart, proving he's still got plenty of fire left in him.
