Blues Traveler, an American rock band, formed in Princeton, New Jersey in 1987 and quickly became known for their blend of blues rock, psychedelic rock, folk rock, soul, and Southern rock. The band's most prominent lineup consists of singer and harmonica virtuoso John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, bassist Bobby Sheehan, drummer Brendan Hill, and subsequent addition of keyboardist Ben Wilson. Tragedy struck in 1999 when bassist Bobby Sheehan passed away, prompting the group to reorganize with Tad Kinchla (Chan’s brother) taking up the bass guitar, and Wilson joining the ranks, contributing to a revitalized sound that carried them into the new century.
Blues Traveler gained mainstream popularity in the mid-1990s with hits like "Run-Around" and "Hook," which showcased their fusion of pop hooks and improvisational music—earning them a Grammy Award and multi-platinum status. The band's extensive touring, highlighted by their electrifying live performances and Popper's harmonica solos, built them a dedicated fan base. Their ongoing career spans over three decades, during which they have released thirteen studio albums—with notable recent efforts such as "Hurry Up & Hang Around" and the Grammy-nominated "Traveler's Blues" illustrating their enduring ability to craft compelling music. Blues Traveler continues to delight audiences, both old and new, with their passionate delivery and musical versatility, solidifying their legacy as one of the most influential and enduring acts in the blues-influenced rock genre.
