Turning Point

Turning Point was an American straight edge hardcore punk band from New Jersey, active from 1988 to 1991. The band consisted of Frank "Skip" Candelori on vocals, Jay Laughlin on guitar, Nick Greif on bass, and Ken Flavell on drums. Initially, their sound was influenced by the youth crew movement, with lyrics focusing on social issues and straight edge themes. Over time, their style evolved to incorporate more emo elements, featuring emotional lyrics and softer vocal delivery. Their discography includes the notable album *It's Always Darkest Before the Dawn* and several EPs and compilations. The band's influence can be seen in later straight edge and hardcore bands.

The band members had prior experience in other groups; Candelori and Laughlin were part of Pointless, while Flavell played in Failsafe. Turning Point's music gained nationwide recognition with their early releases, particularly their 7-inch on Hi-Impact Records. Despite disbanding in the early 1990s, they performed a reunion show in 2016 at the This Is Hardcore festival with guest vocalists. Candelori passed away in 2002 due to an accidental overdose.
