Gangsta Boo

Lola Mitchell, known by her stage name Gangsta Boo, was a seminal figure in the southern rap scene and an early female voice in the world of hardcore rap. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee on August 7, 1979, she rose to prominence as the first female member of the influential hip-hop group Three 6 Mafia. With her raw lyrical prowess and unapologetic charisma, Gangsta Boo helped pave the way for many female rappers in a male-dominated industry.

Launching her solo career in the late 1990s, her debut album "Enquiring Minds," dropped in 1998, and was followed by several more releases including "Both Worlds *69" and "Enquiring Minds II: The Soap Opera." These albums solidified Boo's reputation as a formidable presence in hip-hop. Her artistry wasn't just confined to albums, as she became well-known for her dynamic collaborations and sharp features. Her most recent releases, such as "High Maintenance," "Big Momma," and "4EVA Crunk," showcase her evolution as an artist while still maintaining the tenacious spirit that first catapulted her into the spotlight. Gangsta Boo remained influential in the rap genre, respected for her contributions and her role in shaping the landscape of Southern hip-hop. Her collaboration with fellow Memphis rapper GloRilla on the track "FTCU" and her solo tracks like "Sucka Free" and "Take a Trip" exemplify her continued resonance in the genre up until her untimely passing in 2023.
