Phil Cook

Phil Cook is a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and producer whose heartfelt, soulful music blurs the lines between gospel, blues, folk, and Americana. Often seen with a wide smile and an infectious passion for music, Cook's journey began in Wisconsin as a member of the band DeYarmond Edison, which he co-founded with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver fame, and brothers Brad and Brian Cook. After the band disbanded, Phil Cook’s musical trajectory took him to North Carolina, where he continued to hone his craft and collaborate with a wide array of artists.

With a discography that showcases his versatility and a deep connection to the roots of American music, Phil Cook has steadily released a series of well-received albums. "Southland Mission" (2015) was a dynamic display of his synthesis of Southern musical traditions, followed by the introspective "People Are My Drug" (2018), in which Cook pushed the envelope of his soul-infused sound. His 2011 album "Hungry Mother Blues" laid the groundwork for his solo career with its raw, acoustic narrative. Cook's work extends beyond his recordings, as he is known for his exceptional live performances and frequent collaborations with musicians like The Blind Boys of Alabama, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Amy Ray. Whether through the vintage warmth that radiates from his 2019 piano-based album "Autopiano" or his enveloping performances, Phil Cook continues to be a conduit of musical authenticity and a beloved figure in the contemporary folk and indie music landscape.
