Derek Bourgeois

Derek Bourgeois was a prolific English composer known for his contributions to wind band and brass band music. Born in 1941, he studied at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music. Bourgeois composed over 100 symphonies, numerous concertos, and a vast array of works for wind and brass ensembles. His style often blended traditional forms with modern harmonies and rhythms, making his music both accessible and challenging for performers.

Throughout his career, Bourgeois held several notable positions, including Director of Music at St Paul's Girls' School and conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He was also known for his teaching, having lectured at Bristol University and served as the director of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. Bourgeois passed away in 2017, leaving behind a significant legacy in the world of wind and brass band music.
