Northlane is an Australian metalcore band hailing from Sydney, formed in 2009. Over the years, Northlane has gained critical acclaim for their complex and innovative sound, which merges aggressive metalcore elements with atmospheric and progressive influences. The band's lineup has undergone some changes since its inception, with guitarist Jon Deiley and drummer Nic Pettersen as consistent members, who have helped to steer the band's creative direction. Their early work, characterised by the intricate guitar work and the visceral screams of former vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes, firmly established them within the heavy music scene.
With the addition of Marcus Bridge on vocals in 2014, Northlane's sound evolved to include more melodic and ambient textures, as showcased in their later releases. The albums "Node" and "Mesmer" refined their approach, leading to the critically acclaimed "Alien" in 2019—a deeply personal record that touches on themes of family and personal struggle. The album garnered them an ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album. Continuing to expand their soundscapes, Northlane released "Obsidian" in 2022, which further pushed their sonic boundaries and showcased the band's penchant for combining hard-hitting metal with electronic experimentation. Tracks like "Clockwork" and "Echo Chamber" offer a glimpse into their evolving identity, while their engaging live performances, captured in releases like "Live At The Roundhouse," underscore their status as a formidable presence on stage, confirming their place at the forefront of modern metalcore.
