Palma Violets were an English indie rock band that formed in London in 2011. Comprised of members Samuel Fryer (vocals, guitar), Chilli Jesson (vocals, bass), Jeffrey Mayhew (keyboard), and William Doyle (drums until 2016, then replaced by Robert 'Riddle' Moore), the band became known for their raucous live shows and spirited garage rock anthems. They burst onto the music scene with their debut single "Best of Friends," which was selected as NME's song of the year in 2012. This set the stage for their first album, "180," released in 2013 through Rough Trade Records. The album was a critical and commercial success, showcasing the band’s raw energy and songwriting prowess, and earned them a dedicated fanbase.
Their sophomore album, "Danger in the Club," followed in 2015, cementing their place in the British post-punk revival scene. With tracks like "English Tongue," the band continued to exhibit their distinctive brand of unpolished yet catchy rock tunes that harked back to the sounds of early punk and garage bands. Despite gaining a following and receiving positive reviews from music critics, Palma Violets announced their split in 2016. Post-breakup, the band members have pursued various other projects, but the legacy of Palma Violets remains in the brief, bright spark they provided in the 2010s alternative music scene, remembered for their infectiously energetic live performances and distinctively raw, youthful sound.
