Butch Thompson

Butch Thompson was a Minnesota jazz pianist and clarinetist known for his mastery of ragtime and stride piano styles. Born in 1943, Thompson gained prominence as the original pianist on the radio show "A Prairie Home Companion" from 1974 to 1986. He led the Butch Thompson Trio for decades and was renowned for his deep knowledge of traditional New Orleans jazz. Thompson performed around the world, released numerous albums, and even worked as a consultant for Broadway productions. He passed away in 2022 at the age of 78, leaving behind a rich legacy in American jazz music.
