Nappy Roots

Nappy Roots is an American alternative Southern rap quintet that formed in Kentucky in 1995. The group first gained mainstream recognition with their hit single "Po' Folks" in 2002, which earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Comprised originally of members Skinny DeVille, B. Stille, Ron Clutch, Big V, R. Prophet, and later joined by Fish Scales, they craft their sound from a mix of Southern storytelling, organic beats, and a touch of bluegrass—a style they like to call "country fried hip hop." Their music often explores themes of Southern life, hardship, and celebration.

Over the years, Nappy Roots have enjoyed commercial success and critical acclaim, with several albums and mixtapes that have added to their legacy in the hip-hop community. They've shown remarkable longevity and adaptability, with releases into the 2020s — albums like "40RTY" demonstrate their ongoing relevance and ability to speak to contemporary issues while staying true to their rural roots and down-to-earth style. Their discography, inclusive of projects like "NAPPY4LIFE, Pt. 1" and "Box of Chocolates," showcase the group's evolution while maintaining the authenticity that has endeared them to fans for over two decades.
