Matraca Berg

Matraca Berg is a Nashville-born country music singer-songwriter who has made a significant impact on the genre both as a performer and behind the scenes. Born in 1964, Berg grew up surrounded by music, with her mother being a songwriter and session singer. She burst onto the scene at just 18 years old, co-writing the number one hit "Faking Love" for T.G. Sheppard and Karen Brooks in 1983.

Throughout her career, Berg has been known for her sharp songwriting skills, penning hits for numerous country stars including Reba McEntire, Trisha Yearwood, and Deana Carter. As a recording artist, she released her debut album "Lying to the Moon" in 1990, which spawned two top 40 country hits. Despite modest success as a performer, Berg's songwriting prowess earned her induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008, making her one of its youngest inductees. Her ability to craft emotionally resonant, intelligent songs with a strong female perspective has cemented her place as one of country music's most respected songwriters.
