The Suicide Commandos

The Suicide Commandos are a seminal punk rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, that helped lay the groundwork for the Twin Cities punk scene in the 1970s. Formed in 1975, the trio consists of Steve Almaas (bass and vocals), Chris Osgood (guitar and vocals), and Dave Ahl (drums). Known for their raw energy, stripped-down sound, and DIY spirit, they were one of the first Midwest bands to embrace the punk ethos, influencing acts like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements.

Their debut full-length album, Make A Record, came out in 1977 on Blank Records (a Mercury Records subsidiary) and showcased their sharp, fast-paced sound. Despite disbanding in 1979, the band’s legacy held strong, and they later reunited for occasional performances and recording projects. In 2017, after nearly 40 years, they released a new album titled Time Bomb, earning praise for maintaining their explosive energy and tight musicianship. The Suicide Commandos remain a beloved fixture in Minneapolis music history and a key part of American punk’s early story.
