Yaroslav Shemet is a Ukrainian conductor and musician of Polish origin, born in 1996 in Kharkiv. He began his music education at the age of three and went on to study choral and symphonic conducting at prestigious institutions like the Kharkiv Conservatory, the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, and the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. Shemet's career has been marked by rapid growth and diverse collaborations. He has conducted various orchestras, including the Lviv International Symphony Orchestra and the Hamburg Neue Philharmonie, and has premiered over 40 works of contemporary music.
Shemet currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice and the Music Director of the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. His repertoire extends beyond classical music, often incorporating jazz collaborations, as seen in his work with the Lars Danielsson Group. Recent musical endeavors include conducting works by Mikołaj Górecki, such as "Paradise Lost" and "Flute Concerto No. 2," reflecting his continued engagement with contemporary classical music.
