The American punk rock band **X** formed in Los Angeles in 1977 and became one of the city’s most influential and respected acts in the late 1970s and beyond. The original lineup included vocalists Exene Cervenka and John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer D.J. Bonebrake. Known for their striking blend of punk energy, poetic lyrics, and unique vocal harmonies, X captured the gritty realities of urban life with a sound that also drew from Americana and folk influences. Their debut album, *Los Angeles* (1980), produced by Doors’ Ray Manzarek on a modest budget, is widely regarded as a classic in punk rock history and helped cement their legacy.

Over their career, X released seven studio albums through 1993 and reunited in the early 2000s, continuing to invigorate their fans with their distinct style. Their final studio album, *Smoke & Fiction* (2024), was accompanied by a farewell tour, closing nearly five decades of pioneering music with a raw and inspired record that recalls their early intensity while reflecting on their journey. The band’s influence resonates across punk and alternative scenes, and their artistic integrity remains intact to this day.
