Edgar Broughton Band

The Edgar Broughton Band, originally part of the late 60s British underground rock scene, is known for their psychedelic and progressive sound infused with a raw, blues-rock edge. The band was formed in 1968 in Warwick, England, by brothers Edgar and Steve Broughton, joined by Arthur Grant and Victor Unitt. Their music gravitated towards rebellious and politically charged lyrics, matching the counterculture movement of the era, and secured them a loyal following among the more radical audiences of the time.

Their body of work, particularly from their years signed with Harvest Records (1969-1973), showcases a heady mix of experimental soundscapes and the band's commitment to social and political commentary. Albums such as "Edgar Broughton Band" (1971) and "Sing Brother Sing" (1970) are emblematic of their distinctive style. Despite never achieving mainstream success, the band left a lasting legacy with live performances that captured their energetic and intense stage presence, as demonstrated in the later release "Live Hits Harder!" and the venerable "Live at Rockpalast" performance from 2006. Through a series of compilations and live recording releases, such as "Speak Down The Wires: The Recordings 1975-1982" and "Live In Hamburg: The Fabrik Concert 1973," the band's provocative sound continues to be celebrated by new generations of rock enthusiasts.
