Gehenna

Gehenna is a Norwegian black metal band that formed in 1993 in Stavanger. Known for blending traditional black metal elements with atmospheric and symphonic touches, they quickly established themselves as part of Norway’s second wave of black metal. Their early releases, including First Spell and Seen Through the Veils of Darkness (The Second Spell), showcased eerie melodies layered with raw aggression and occult themes, helping cement their reputation in the underground scene. Over the years, the band has evolved their sound, touching on death metal influences in later albums like WW and Murder.

With a name inspired by a biblical term for hell, Gehenna has stayed true to the genre’s dark aesthetics while maintaining a distinct identity through lineup changes and stylistic shifts. Their ability to experiment within extreme metal frameworks, while still delivering chilling and evocative music, has made them a notable and enduring presence in the Scandinavian black metal landscape.
