Silk

Silk is an American R&B group that formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1989 and is best known for their 1993 chart-topping hit "Freak Me." The group was discovered and mentored by R&B legend Keith Sweat, who produced their successful debut album *Lose Control*. Silk’s smooth harmonies and sensual style quickly won them acclaim, with other popular tracks like "Girl U For Me" and "Happy Days" helping their debut go double platinum. The lineup that brought them fame includes Tim Cameron, Jimmy Gates Jr., Gary "Big G" Glenn, Gary "Lil G" Jenkins, and Johnathen "John John" Rasboro, who grew up together and shared influences ranging from gospel to Michael Jackson and Prince.

Though Silk enjoyed early success, changes in their relationship with Sweat and shifting music industry dynamics led to challenges, including losing their Elektra Records contract and a temporary hiatus. Lead singer Gary "Lil G" Jenkins pursued solo and stage endeavors, including a role in Tyler Perry’s *Madea's Family Reunion*. The group eventually reunited in the 2010s and continued to perform and release new music, maintaining their place as beloved figures in classic '90s R&B with a loyal fan base and memorable hits that have stood the test of time.
