Rachel Harnisch is a German mezzo-soprano who has performed extensively in opera, concert, and recital. She has sung with major orchestras and opera companies around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Metropolitan Opera. Harnisch is known for her beautiful voice, her expressive musicianship, and her commitment to new music. She has premiered works by many contemporary composers, including Aribert Reimann, Wolfgang Rihm, and Helmut Lachenmann.
Harnisch was born in Munich, Germany, and studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. She made her professional debut in 1995 at the Bavarian State Opera, and has since gone on to sing at major opera houses throughout Europe and North America. Harnisch has also performed in concert with many of the world's leading conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, and Simon Rattle. She is a regular guest at the Salzburg Festival and the Lucerne Festival, and has also performed at the BBC Proms and the Edinburgh Festival.
