Vibeke Saugestad

Vibeke Saugestad is a Norwegian singer, songwriter, and guitarist who first made waves in the mid-1990s as the frontwoman of the band Weld, whose debut album, Natural Tools, earned them a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannspris) and significant attention for its melodic, American-inspired rock sound. Born in Genoa, Italy, on May 2, 1976, and raised in Fredrikstad and Moss, Norway, Saugestad started playing music early and was already singing in local bands as a teenager before joining Weld at just 16—quickly becoming known for her soulful voice and charismatic stage presence. After Weld disbanded, she launched a solo career in the early 2000s, releasing albums like Into the Shimmering (2001), Overdrive (2003), and The World Famous Hat Trick (2008), which featured singles that received airplay in the US and showcased her knack for infectious, guitar-driven power pop.

Over the years, Saugestad has lived in Beacon, New York, where she continues to record and perform, both as a solo artist and with projects like the harmony-driven Wynotte Sisters and her latest band, The Vibeke Saugestad Band—featuring her husband Ken Fox on bass. Her music blends energetic pop hooks with a touch of melancholy, and her 2025 EP, The Sun Sessions, marks her return to writing after a long break, proving her songwriting is as sharp and heartfelt as ever. Alongside her music career, Saugestad also works as a translator and audiobook narrator, adding another creative layer to her already busy life.
