Alcides Lanza (born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1929) is a pivotal figure in contemporary classical music, particularly noted for his avant-garde compositions and innovative use of electronic media. Lanza studied piano and composition in his native Argentina before moving to the United States where he furthered his education at the Tanglewood Music Center and later at Columbia University under the tutelage of luminaries such as Luigi Dallapiccola and Vladimir Ussachevsky.

Throughout his illustrious career, Lanza has worn multiple hats: composer, pianist, conductor, and educator.
