Lidy Blijdorp is a dynamic young cellist from the Netherlands, celebrated for her breathtaking musicality and ability to shift from hazy dreams to fierce attacks on stage. She started playing cello at age six after being inspired by a piano trio concert, following in her sisters' footsteps with violin, and went on to graduate cum laude from the conservatories in The Hague, Amsterdam, and Paris under teachers like Monique Bartels and Michel Strauss, later earning her Artist Diploma at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel with Gary Hoffman.
Her debut album *Journeyers* (2020), featuring her own arrangements of Ravel alongside Kodály's solo sonata and collaborations with violinist Rosanne Philippens and pianist Julien Brocal, snagged two Edison Classical Awards for Best Debut and Audience Prize. Lidy's performed as soloist with top orchestras like the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, and Residentie Orkest, while several composers have dedicated works to her, including pieces by Kate Moore, Ig Henneman, and Joel Bons; she plays on a stunning Farotti cello once owned by Anner Bylsma, courtesy of the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.
