Colman Pearce

Colman Pearce is a multifaceted musician from Dublin, known for his work as a conductor, pianist, and composer. He holds a B.Mus. (Hons) from University College Dublin and furthered his conducting studies with notable figures like Franco Ferrara and Hans Swarowski. Pearce's career highlights include being Co-Principal Conductor of the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra from 1978 to 1980 and Principal Conductor from 1981 to 1983. He also served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and Principal Conductor and Music Director of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire spans symphonic works, opera, and oratorio, with a focus on promoting contemporary Irish music. As a composer, Pearce has created works such as the song cycle "Summerfest" and "Robinson, a Most Unusual Cat," showcasing his diverse musical talents.

Pearce has been involved in several recording projects, including works by Stanford, Victory, and Balada, on labels like Naxos. His own compositions have been recognized, such as the IMRO Composition Award-winning piece "Amaya." In 2009, he was conferred with a Ph.D. in composition from St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, Dublin City University. Throughout his career, Pearce has received prestigious awards, including the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in Mississippi and being made a Freeman of the City of New Orleans. His contributions to music have been marked by a dedication to both conducting and composition, leaving a lasting impact on the musical landscape.
