Lisette Canton

Lisette Canton is a renowned Canadian choral and orchestral conductor, vocal coach, and early music specialist. She is best known as the founder and artistic director of the Ottawa Bach Choir, a professional vocal ensemble specializing in early music. Under her direction, the choir has achieved significant recognition, including a Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year – Vocal or Choral Performance for their album *Handel: Dixit Dominus; Bach & Schütz: Motets* in 2020. Canton is also an associate professor and head of choral music at York University in Toronto, where she conducts several ensembles and oversees the graduate program in choral music.

Canton's extensive career includes conducting at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, as well as performances in Europe and China. She has prepared choirs for notable conductors like Helmuth Rilling and John Rutter. Her educational background includes a Doctor of Musical Arts in choral conducting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Canton is a strong advocate for music education and has led numerous outreach initiatives to bring choral music to diverse communities. Her work with the Ottawa Bach Choir has included several successful European tours and collaborations with international ensembles.
