Gangbé Brass Band

Gangbé Brass Band is a dynamic 10-piece musical ensemble hailing from Benin in West Africa. Founded in 1994, the group blends West African musical traditions with the brassy sounds of jazz and funk, creating an energetic and distinctive sound that's both deeply rooted in tradition and refreshingly modern. Their name, "Gangbé," means "sound of metal" in Fon, one of Benin’s local languages—a nod to their powerful brass instrumentation and rhythmic percussion.

Known for their vibrant performances and socially conscious lyrics, Gangbé Brass Band has toured extensively around the globe, sharing stages with a range of international artists. Their music draws on Vodun (Voodoo) ceremonial rhythms, Beninese folk styles, and highlife, all filtered through a brass band format reminiscent of New Orleans jazz. With albums like Whendo and Go Slow to Lagos, the band continues to celebrate and evolve West Africa's musical heritage while connecting with audiences far beyond their home country.
