Idan Raichel is an Israeli singer, composer, and producer born in 1977 in Kfar Saba, Israel. Known primarily for his work with the Idan Raichel Project, he creates a unique blend of Israeli, Middle Eastern, Ethiopian, and various international musical influences. Starting music early with the accordion and later studying jazz piano, Idan became a session musician before founding his own collaborative project. The Idan Raichel Project, launched in the early 2000s, features a diverse lineup of singers and musicians from multiple cultural backgrounds, particularly Ethiopian Israelis, creating a rich fusion sound that gained widespread acclaim with hits like “Bo’ee” (“Come With Me”). His collaborative spirit and musical experimentation have made him a leading figure in Israeli world music, with international tours and performances in prestigious venues worldwide.
Over his career, Idan has released multiple albums with the Idan Raichel Project as well as solo work and collaborations, including albums with Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré. His music’s global appeal and message of cultural unity have earned him significant honors, such as being named one of the 50 most influential Jews by The Jerusalem Post and performing at events like the Nobel Peace Prize celebration in 2010.
