Egidio Romualdo Duni was an 18th-century composer best known for his work in both Italian opera seria and French opéra comique. Born in Matera, Italy, in 1708, Duni studied at the Conservatorio di Santa Maria di Loreto in Naples, where he developed a strong foundation in the Italian operatic tradition. His early career saw success in Italy, but he eventually moved to France, where he became a notable figure in Parisian musical circles.
Duni played an important role in shaping the emerging genre of opéra comique, combining French lyrical sensibilities with Italian melodic flair. Works like "Les deux chasseurs et la laitière" and "Les moissonneurs" showcase his distinctive style, blending engaging storytelling with catchy, tuneful music. He continued to compose and influence the French opera scene until his death in 1775.
