The Professionals are a UK punk band formed in 1979 by Paul Cook and Steve Jones, both fresh from the breakup of the iconic Sex Pistols. Right from the start, expectations were high for the new project, given the duo’s pedigree and previous songwriting successes. The band featured a rotating lineup that included bassists Andy Allen and later Paul Myers, as well as guitarist Ray McVeigh. They released several well-received singles and saw their music featured in cult films, but their debut album faced production delays and legal issues. After a short initial run and setbacks including a car accident and Jones’ departure for the US, the band split in 1982. Decades later, in 2015, The Professionals reformed around Paul Cook, releasing new music and playing acclaimed shows—proving their legacy in punk rock endures.
