David Tao

David Tao, born Tao Xuzhong on 11 July 1969, is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter who has made a significant impact on the Mandopop music scene. Born into a music-influenced household—his father was a veteran singer and his mother a songwriter—Tao's bloodstream was rich with melody and rhythm from an early age. After studying in the United States, where he was exposed to a variety of music styles including R&B, rock, and jazz, Tao emerged as a distinctive fusion artist upon his return to Taiwan.

David Tao made his official debut in 1997 with a self-titled album that would redefine Mandopop with its innovative blend of R&B and pop. He quickly became known for his unique musical style and soulful voice, capturing the hearts of fans and earning critical acclaim. As a multi-talented musician, Tao writes, composes, arranges, and produces the majority of his work, allowing him to maintain creative control and authenticity in his artistry. Over the years, he has been recognized with numerous accolades, including Golden Melody Awards, which are frequently referred to as the Grammys of the Taiwanese music industry. Among his recent works are reimagined versions of his classics, contributions to soundtracks such as "Mars Baby" for the Korean drama “Love in the Moonlight”, and thematic releases like the Christmas-themed "聖誕之吻." His continued relevance and ability to evolve stylistically while maintaining his signature sound, as evidenced in tracks like "I'm OK (Reimagined)" and "愛,很簡單 20週年初心版," solidify David Tao’s status as a lasting figure in Asian pop music.
