Weedeater

Weedeater is an American sludge metal band hailing from North Carolina, formed in 1998. Renowned for their heavy, down-tuned, and doom-laden sound, the band is a formidable force in the stoner metal scene. The trio, consisting of "Dixie" Dave Collins on bass and vocals, Dave Shepherd on guitar, and several drummers throughout their history, including Keko (2001–2005), has created a distinct sonic blend characterized by raw vocals, swampy guitar riffs, and thunderous rhythms. The band's music reflects the gritty southern landscapes, encapsulating themes of despair, humor, and the macabre.

With albums like "God Luck and Good Speed" (2007) and "Jason... The Dragon" (2011), Weedeater established themselves as torchbearers in the genre, garnering a following for their unapologetically fierce and fuzz-laden anthems. Their latest offering, "Goliathan" (2015), showcases the band's growth, maintaining their robust signature sound while exploring sludgier depths. Despite undergoing lineup changes and facing personal life setbacks, including an incident where Dixie Dave accidentally shot off his own big toe, the band has solidified their reputation through relentless touring and a ferocious live presence. "The Best of Weedeater," a compilation celebrating their relentless sonic assault, serves as a fitting monument to the band's two-decade-plus legacy, offering both new and long-time fans a potent hit of their most intoxicating material.
