Terzij de Horde

Terzij de Horde is a boundary-pushing black metal band from Utrecht, Netherlands, known for blending the ferocity of black metal with the urgent energy of hardcore, grind, and screamo—think blistering intensity that pulls you in rather than keeping you at arm’s length. The band’s name, which means “set apart from the horde” in old Dutch, is drawn from a line in the poem “Einde” by Hendrik Marsman, a major influence whose work they even translated and set to music in a special 2015 release. Formed in 2010, Terzij de Horde draws inspiration from literary and philosophical sources, crafting songs that wrestle with themes of philosophy, selfhood, and poetry, all delivered through complex, cathartic performances.

Over the years, the band has built a reputation for intense live shows and a discography that evolves from early EPs like A Rage of Rapture Against the Dying of the Light to ambitious full-lengths such as Self (2015) and In One of These, I Am Your Enemy (2022). Their most recent album, Our Breath Is Not Ours Alone (2025), showcases their signature blend of layered guitars, driving rhythm, and poetic lyrics, with members Demian Snel, Jelle Agema, Johan van Hattum, Joost Vervoort, and Richard Japenga at the core.
