Supersister

Supersister was a progressive rock band hailing from The Hague, Netherlands, known for their eclectic and innovative music that emerged amidst the progressive rock explosion of the early 1970s. Formed in 1967 by brothers Ron and Rob Douw and schoolmates Sacha van Geest and Robert-Jan Stips, the band initially performed under the name 'Sweet OK Sister', blending rock with touches of jazz, psychedelia, and complex time signatures that became their signature style. Their name eventually evolved into 'Supersister', under which they found their unique voice within the progressive rock genre.

The band's discography encapsulates a creative and brief initial existence, with them producing a slew of adventurous albums that showcased their willingness to push the boundaries of rock music. Their debut album "Present From Nancy" (1970) set the tone for their inventive approach and was followed by well-received records such as "To The Highest Bidder" (1971) and "Pudding En Gisteren" (1972), which featured an ambitious blend of rock, classical and avant-garde influences. Each of these releases, along with "No Tree Will Grow (On Too High A Mountain)" and "Iskander" (both from 1973), established their prowess in crafting expansive, narrative-driven concept albums that stood apart from the burgeoning scene. Their music often contained a humorous undertone, as evidenced in fan favorites like "She Was Naked" and "Fancy Nancy", yet never strayed from the sophistication of adept musicality. Supersister's presence in the progressive rock era was comparable to a blazing comet — brief, bright, and unforgettable. Despite their relatively short-lived original phase that ended in 1974, the band’s impact on the Dutch progressive music scene has been lasting, as witnessed by the 2000 reunion album "Retsis Repus" and occasional reunion performances thereafter.
