Zangoma

Zangoma is a band that blends traditional Zambian music, known as Zamrock, with modern influences. The group was formed when Waina Kolomwe, a Zambian musician, met Finnish guitarist Ville Salonen in Tampere, Finland. Kolomwe had moved to Finland in 2019, and their collaboration led to the creation of Zangoma, which also includes bassist Riku Pirttiniemi and drummer Miikka Heikkinen. The band's name is inspired by the Zulu word "sangoma," meaning a mystic or diviner. Their music is characterized by its raw, natural drumming and the incorporation of traditional Zambian rhythms, while also embracing modern elements like rap. Zangoma's debut album, *Faka Mulilo*, was released on the Finnish indie label Svart Records and features a blend of Zamrock with contemporary styles. The band aims to keep the spirit of Zamrock alive while innovating its sound for the 21st century.
